Lenten Study Program Concludes

  • St. Mark's Center (map)

SEEK. . .KNOCK. . . ASK: A LENTEN JOURNEY OF DISCOVERY—Tonight we conclude this year’s Lenten study program, Seek. . .Knock. . . Ask: A Lenten Journey of Discovery. This 5-part series has been examining the foundational aspects of our faith.  The classes are particularly helpful for anyone considering Confirmation, Reception or renewing a commitment to continuing one’s faith journey in the Episcopal Church.

A simple supper will be served at 6:00, followed by the class at 6:30.  Then, on Saturday, April 14, St. Mark’s will host a deanery-wide service of Confirmation, Reception and Renewal.  The service will be at 10:00 AM and held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Lady’s Island. Bishop Skip will be presiding.

If you are considering Confirmation, Reception (welcomed into the Episcopal Church from another Christian tradition), renewing your commitment to the faith journey you’ve already begun, or simply wish to learn more about the Episcopal Church, please call the church office.

Here is a listing of the topics we’ll be covering.

Who is God to me?  The Creeds and beyond. . .
The Apostles’ Creed, presented in interrogatory form, is the starting place to discover our understanding of the Triune God and how God is manifest in our own lives.
Who am I to God? Child, companion, caretaker. . .
Here, we are invited to a deeper understanding of who we are in God’s eyes.  In view of God’s relationship with us, why are we asked to persevere in resisting evil and whenever we fall into sin, repent and return to the Lord?
What is the Church to me?  Eat, learn, pray, love. . .
We are asked to continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and in the prayers. How do these practices inform our understanding of life in the church?
What am I supposed to do?  Mission, ministry and me. . .
We examine the ways of Christian life and look at the questions which ask if we will proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ; seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves; and strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.
Why is the Episcopal Church for me? Our story, structures and other distinctions.
We live out our Baptismal Covenant in a particular church. We will explore why we chose to be Episcopalian and what is unique about this particular way of following Jesus.
